ANGELINA JOLIE IS ST JOHN'S FACE AND THAT'S WHAT THEY COME UP WITH?

Recently, St John's signed her as their new face and she is contractually required to wear what only they call "Hollywood Glamour" gears at Red Carpet events ...

She probably got blinded by the $millions, imagining all the schools she could get built and the number of children she could save... What she didn't realise is that she also had signed for her stylish demise. The Golden Globe Awards Event certainly was a wake up call for the gorgious actress who allegedly was unhappy with what she was asked to sport. With great reasons: the color was flat on her, the skirt line was unflattering and rather boring, the decolletage without interest...
Surely, St John's creative team could have come up with something less generic for an event at which it is well known everybody is competing for elegance, style and glamourous attitude.

The brand's style is supposed to stand for strong and independant women. Instead, the only accessory that saves Angelina from bad reviews is her man. How independant an image is that!

Angelina is a glamourous person and certainly doesn't need the frocks. However, she should be among the best dressed.

The mother of three is Haute Couture material and therefore, I did work out a few looks for her with creations by Christian Lacroix, for the Collection Haute Couture - Winter 2006-07 (Note that these pictures are pure fabrication).

Of course, the publicity of St John's being associated to Angelina Jolie in people's mind is probably doing wonder, so why even try... I just wish they were more ambitious or at least, that they would set her free when it comes to high fashion events!

UGG-*LY* BOOTS are OUT

I can't believe it but I still see girls sporting Ugg boots.
Please someone, tell them ugg-ly boots are out - forever - or should be anyway.

Why anyone would like to look like Winny the Poo, even for the Carnival?

If you want to wear comfortable boots, there is an infinity of more stylish alternatives.
Try these:

Dolce & Gabbana at Yoox

Giuseppe Zanotti at Yoox

Dior by Galliano

Sergio Rossi

STYLISH MEN SHOULD NOT WEAR JEANS

It is a common belief that jeans epitomize casual chic. Jeans however should never be thrown on casually and carelessly. Too often do I see on my usual Sunday brunch spots men sport jeans as a week-end uniform which render Jeans too boring.

Therefore jeans can often be considered a sign of style slovenliness as there are more and more opportunities for men in terms of clothing.

If Italians are the masters in the art of looking sport chic, anybody with little will can achieve a personalised casual yet stylish look, starting by banning jeans from any social appearances in town.

My suggestions

Why not try instead:
  • 20s style Flannel trousers
  • Large Trousers ( Armani)

  • Hugo Boss dart sided trousers

STYLISH DURING YOUR HOLIDAY

BE STYLISH AND COMFORTABLE EVEN ON HOLIDAY

Holiday should never be a
pretext for being careless about clothing.

Here are few ideas that might help you constitute a lovely wardrobe for your next destination:

  • Iron free garments

    • Viscose ( Rayon) is the perfect material and you best ally for stylish holidays. It doesn't wrinkle and always falls nicely. A viscose dress in black, beige or in coloursl such as violet or pink according to one's carnation and hair colour.

    • Woven Polyester or silk crepe are other materials that do not crease. Pencil skirts are easy to wear in all circumstances: touristic visits, night clubbing, restaurant, trendy bar. The versatility of skirt is that you can change tops to modify the entire outfit.
    • Take loads of Gap My Favorite T-shirts are an excellent top for holiday, They have a good shape and they hardly crease.

  • Pockets
    • If you take a jacket, priviledge jackets with pockets; the must being deep inside pockets.
    • Bags: if your bag doesn't close on the outside, make sure you have pockets with zips inside. It protects valuable goods from unexpected rain and/or pickpockets.

  • Versatility is your best ally during holidays
    • Shorts
      • Take elegant shorts with beautiful material such as silk/ cashmere, silk/linen.
      • Shorts combined to a ligth jacket are lovely for dinner.
      • For comfort and grace, favor large cuts with side darts and permanent crease front and back. Moreover, large cut usually have slimming effects on the legs.
      • Prefer shorts above the knees with deep pockets since you can carry a lot in these pockets without altering the silhouette.
    • Trousers:
      • Large cuts and deep pockets are yet again to be favored.
      • Trousers
      • Silk / Linen is one of the best material for holiday since the silk has for effect to minimise the wrinkles.
      • Rayon: excellent too but only if you are in excellent shape.
      • Plain and neutral colours are preferable black, white, brown... Accessorize with belts, jewels, scarves etc

    • Dresses:
      • Shirt dresses are a good pick for holiday. They suit everybody's shape. Prefer black or beige.
      • A Viscose dress is always falling nicely and doesn't fit too tight on the body which is pleasant.

    • Tops:
      • Kaftan Blouses usually are of light texture. They fit any body shape.
Always chose elegant patterns. Mix with plain colour items below.

    • Shoes:
Style is not synonym to discomfort but c
      hose comfy shoes with spirit...
      • Thong Sandals:
      • Pick the good looking ones - even flat- you can wear them at the restaurant. Invest in a nice pair of Jimmy Choo, Gucci (Picture) etc

      • Soft Loafers
    • Tod's is the best and comfortable. The "picots", Tod's trademark have a massaging effect on your feet. Very classy for casual occasions.

      • Trainers
The style of trainers shall be chosen with care. If you cannot afford the labels, at least try to find styles that resemble the following styles:
        • Converse: By all means, prefer the high version and ONLY with trousers. Don't even consider wearing them with cropped trousers or shorts.
        • Prada, My Car shoes (picture left) (without socks )
        • Superga
        • Hogan

        • Accessorize
          • Belts: bring a large elegant, yet original belt to accessorize a black or white dress

          • Scarves:
Ideal for destination, take very colourful scarves. My advice: invest in a Pleated scarf by Hermes, the pleats give a very casual sophistication ( if there is any of a kind) to any outfit. You can knot them in many way. An alternative: the Hermes Twilly

          • Jewels:
Be simple and think structure. To upscale the plain and simple holiday outfit, chose chunky pieces of jewellery. The best pick: A several range gemstone necklace in bright colors such as coral, turquoise, jade, pink quartz...
